Present ContinuousNOTE: Sometimes this tense is called the ‘present progressive’, but we will stick with calling it the present continuousThis tense is used to describe something that is happening now or around now.Examples:“I am reading 西瓜English now.”“They are playing with their friends.”“He is playing computer games.” You can also use it to talk about something you are not doing at that moment.“I am not working this morning.”“She isn’t watching TV, she is playing outside.”The verb can change when you talk about other people. NOTE: Don’t forget your contractions I am = I’mYou are = you’reThey are = they’reIt is = It’sHe/she is = he’s/she’sWe are = we’reThe present continuous verb changes when you ask questions.Am I working?Are we working?Is it working?Are you working?Is he/she working?Are they working?This is English though, so it is not that simple. There are some verbs, which cannot be used in the present continuousExample:“I like coffee.”?“I am liking coffee.”?The verbs you cannot use are called dynamic and stative, but going into them in detail is a post for another day.
